Why we love the bath.

About three months ago, John decided he hated to have a bath. Not just hated, but was petrified. I could run the kitchen sink and he would dash for the farthest corner in the house. When I had to wash him, the outcome was disastrous. The screaming was mind numbing. Then he had an epiphany about five days -- bath time is fun! Now he's asking for a 'bubble bath' at least three times day. When I arrived home on Thursday, Esther our Nanny, told me she bathed them twice that day.

We were lucky to have Kevin home today. After an ice cream treat, the twins ran upstairs demanding a bath. They spent over an hour splashing. The screams from the bath weren't out of terror, but from enjoyment. I was able to capture some photos of them in the bath and post-bath pj playtime.

On another note -- I'd like to finally scream 'HALLELUJAH' from the hills. Kathryn has self-potty trained. Without an provocation, she walked up to the Baby Bjorn potty seat, lifted up her dress and did her business. She hasn't worn a diaper, except for sleeping, in four days! John isn't interested, but he is her biggest cheerleader. He makes sure to give her a 'high five' every time she takes the next step to being a big girl.

Seven weeks indeed!

I just realized it's been seven weeks since my last post. My excuse? Work. A poor excuse, I know, but April is my busiest time of year. So much has happened since the last time I've had laptop & flickr photo download time. I apologize for not detailing every event, but here is a summary of the latest happenings (if there are pictures, I have added a link):
  • We celebrated Grandma Ferrandina's 86th birthday. The twins lavished her with hugs & kisses. Pictures.
  • Easter was celebrated at the Busardos. The twins had two days of Easter egg hunting at pre-school. I had to bring many of their chocolate treats to work just so they could come down from their sugar rush.
  • I went to a retirement dinner for my first boss at Merrill Lynch. I wasn't expecting to be mentioned during his farewell speech. Surprisingly, I was one of his favorite interns. Sometimes I wonder if I shouldn't have stuck it out as a Portfolio Analyst--- let me think, nope.
  • Had a play date with my high school friend and her son. I hadn't seen her parents since the day I graduated in Jun-91. They were such good people, I really enjoyed catching up. John & Kathryn blew bubbles with Jack for hours!
  • My current boss announced her resignation to accept the Presidency at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. Her farewell celebrations begin tomorrow.
  • Aunt Kitty and I took the twins to the Catoctin Zoo on a crisp spring day. Pictures.
  • John & Kathryn joined their neighborhood friend, Jackson, for a South Mountain Creamery tour. I like to tell people about the ice-cold milk that we have delivered by a milkman every week circa 1950 - glass bottles, too!
  • A weekend visit from the Ferrandinas from LI. We finally got to meet Christian, my cousin's first child. Pictures.
  • Grandma Busardo and I took the twins to their first May festival, hosted at their pre-school. They had a moon bounce, temp tattoos, and a sheep from a local farm (for petting of course). I placed some bids at the silent auction, but alas, I didn't win.
  • I went on my first solo trip with the twins. I loaded the twins into the minivan and headed north to NYC. We spent two glorious days visiting my dear friend Sara. We toured the Bronx Zoo, indulged in yummy Magnolia cupcakes (who doesn't like icing), and enjoyed everything that is NYC. Pictures.
  • Grandpa and Grandma (Susie) Glasscock came up from Richmond. Bringing with them the twins' birthday gifts -- Radio Flyer Tricycles. There were many hours of snuggle time with the grandparents.
  • Daddy began another project. This time a new kitchen. Not an entire remodel. New paint, new appliances, a new countertop, and new grout for the tile floor. In other words, we're redoing everything but the cabinets. Work in process photos.
  • My college roommate Dee Dee had her second child - Ryan Patrick. 7lbs, 13oz. Congratulations to Dee Dee, Alex and Abby. We'll be heading down to Roanoke in June to spoil the family and new baby.
  • Grandma Busardo and I took the twins to a local Alpaca Farm. I was treated to beautiful yarn for my next knitting project. I'm seriously considering Alpaca ownership. Not in my backyard, of course. Pictures.
  • I had a mini-reunion over dinner and drinks with three friends from high school. Two of the girls I have known since I moved to Arlington, VA in 1980 (28 yrs), the third became my friend when she moved to the same town during middle school. I had a great evening of laughter and good company. Before I knew it, I was heading home at 1am (many hrs past my bedtime).
  • Mother's Day was spent with Mom Busardo and Aunt Kitty. Kevin spent daddy time with the twins while I headed south for a delicious Tapas lunch and a jaunt to the National Museum for Women in the Art.

The coming weeks are going to bring more family adventures. I hope to post more frequently now that spring has sprung and life goes from chaotic to slow and steady.
